Vision Therapy

Picture
Here at Century City Optometric Center, we believe that perfect vision is more than just seeing clearly, rather we believe that the entire visual system needs to work well.

This includes the ability to move your eyes efficiently, to use vision to guide your body, hands, and feet, and to be able to processing all the thousands of images you are seeing each day.

                    What is Vision Therapy?

Picture
Vision therapy is a custom program uniquely planned for each patient to train and enhance a variety of visual skills.  Vision problems such as poor tracking, double vision, "lazy eye," and vision related learning problems are common underlying reasons why a child may be struggling in school or an adult may be having difficult reading at work.  The customized program is performed under the supervision of an optometrist and consists of 1-2 weekly office sessions coupled with home activities to practice throughout the week.  Vision therapy can be likened to "physical therapy for the eyes," by training the visual system to be more efficient at how the brain  processes the images you see.

All patients must first be evaluated with a comprehensive eye exam to check for refractive correction and eye health.  If the vision problem is learning related, then a Visual Processing Evaluation will also be recommended.  A report summarizing the findings from the evaluation is written.  An individualized therapy plan will be designed to meet your goals.

4. Will vision therapy be covered by insurance?

The best way to determine if vision therapy would be covered is to check with your major medical insurance provider individually.  Vision therapy is not  covered under VSP or EyeMed vision plans.
